CIMB Group posts record earnings in 3Q

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group Holdings Bhd posted net profit of RM726.83 million in the third quarter ended Sept 30, the best single quarter result ever.

CIMB said on Tuesday, Nov 11 that its net profit for the 3Q was 62.3% above the RM447.96 million a year ago. It was also 9.7% higher than the 2Q earnings.

Revenue was RM2.78 billion compared with RM1.68 billion a year ago. Earnings per share rose to 20.58 sen from 13.47 sen.

For the nine months, CIMB Group posted net profit of RM2.004 billion, up 22.7% on-year, equivalent to net EPS of 56.8 sen. The group's annualised net return on equity (ROE) was 14.7%. Revenue was RM7.89 billion compared with RM5.86 billion a year ago.

CIMB Group CEO Datuk Seri Nazir Razak said: "This is our best operating 9 months and single quarter results ever due to a combination of good performances by most of our divisions and our enlarged platform in Indonesia.

"The main disappointment this year has been our international (ex-Asean) banking portfolio which saw higher loan losses due to the effects of the global financial crisis."
