I am looking a handphone for my wife. So have to understand some technical terms.
Q1. What is 3G?
a. 3G refers to the mobile network. It will do everything that our current 2G network can do, but is more efficient, and allows DiGi to provide more advanced services to our customers.
Q2. What are the benefits of 3G?
a. 3G will allow DiGi to offer customers a wider range of more advanced services while achieving greater network capacity.
b. 3G allows simultaneous use of voice and data services.
c. 3G provides higher data rates.
d. 3G allows DiGi to provide new advanced services such as video calls.
Q3. How is 3G different from 2.5G / 2G / EDGE?
a. 3G is a more efficient mobile network. The most obvious differences are:
i. 3G allows simultaneous use of voice and data services
ii. 3G provides higher data rates (faster download / upload)
iii. 3G provides video calls
iv. Create a table format on the difference of various technology
Q4. What’s the difference between 3G, EDGE, GPRS, WAP & Mobile Internet?
a. 3G: refers to the brand new mobile network. Think of it as a better version of 2G. It will provide faster / higher data rates (throughput) compared to the 2G network (EDGE & GPRS).
b. EDGE: refers to a service enhancement on the 2G network that provides higher data rates compared to GPRS (the default on 2G).
c. GPRS: refers to a service on the 2G network that provide basic data rates of between 56-114Kbps (like dial-up speed).
d. WAP: refers to a standard that allows customers to access the Mobile Web from their phones. This means browsing websites built for the mobile phone using a WAP browser. However, WAP is gradually becoming obsolete, as more advanced phones enter the market. Most new phones today are able to access websites you see/use on your PC, and you won’t see a difference.
e. Mobile Internet: is a term we use in DiGi to refer to browsing / using the Internet on your phone. It refers to things like checking Gmail on your phone, surfing Wikipedia from your phone, etc.
Q5. What’s the difference HSPA / HSDPA / HSUPA & 3G?
a. HSPA: (High Speed Packet Access) can be considered as an upgrade of the 3G network that increases the speed of Internet access. HSPA is capable of achieving a theoretical download speed of 14Mbps (HSDPA), and upload speed of 5.8Mbps (HSUPA).
b. HSPA is a collection of HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) which refers to the download speed, and HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) which refers to the upload speed.
