KUALA LUMPUR: Share price of Tenaga Nasional Bhd rose to RM8.25 in late afternoon trade on July 17, the highest since August last year on strong fund buying.

At 4.15pm, the share price was up 25 sen to RM8.25.

Analysts polled by Bloomberg showed that 17 had Buy calls and 11 Hold call.

Three research reports on Tenaga were issued on July 17. Macquarie Research had an Outperform on Tenaga with a target price of RM10.30, Amresearch a Hold with the target price at RM7.80. OSK Investment Research had a Buy with a target price of RM9.

OSK Investment Research said it expected a rosier quarter for Tenaga, which is expected to release its third quarter (3QFY09) results on July 22.

The research house expected a year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter improvement in core and reported net profit. Although tariffs are down 3.7% q-o-q, the 25% reduction in gas prices would more than offset the tariff reduction. Lower coal prices should also bring about a y-o-y profit increase.

“In view of improving demand in June and July, we raised our demand and core net profit forecasts by 5.3% for FY09 and 6.8% for FY10. The DCF-based fair value is raised from RM8.40 to RM9.00,” it said.
