12:14pmBeleaguered MCA titans Ong Tee Keat and Dr Chua Soi Lek are believed to have reached a truce after the duo met with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak yesterday.

The outcome of the meeting - held at an unknown location - is that the bitter rivals would return to status quo and serve as president and deputy president respectively.

However, they would set in motion a succession plan whereby a new set of leaders would take over later.

Ong is presently chairing an emergency central committee meeting at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and is expected to announce the details of the peace plan during a press conference later.

According to sources, Najib, who is the Barisan Nasional chairperson, mooted the solution to end the current MCA impasse, which has dragged on since the duo were elected last October.

Under this Najib-brokered plan, Ong's suggestion for another extraordinary general meeting (EGM) - to allow delegates to determine if fresh polls are necessary - is now redundant.

A potential snag however is the position of Liow Tiong Lai, who was promoted to replace Chua as deputy party president just a week ago from being a vice-president.

Liow was appointed to fill in the vacancy left by Chua, who saw his party membership reinstated during the Oct 10 EGM but not his post of deputy president.

The Oct 10 EGM left the party in disarray because a vote of no-confidence was passed against Ong while delegates also rejected a motion to reinstate Chua as deputy president.

Chua was sacked from MCA on Aug 26 for tarnishing the party image over his 2008 sex-scandal DVD, but Ong's detractors claim that it was purely a political decision
