UNISEM (M) Bhd announced today that pre-tax profit for its third quarter ended Sept 30, 2010, increased to RM55.632 million from RM25.516 million in the same quarter last year. Revenue rose 30.7 per cent to RM370.692 million from RM283.519 million previously, the group said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia. For the nine-month period, the group's pre-tax profit rose to RM154.516 million from RM21.849 million and revenue was up by 47.3 per cent to RM1.059 billion from RM719.479 million previously. The significant increase in revenue and profit was attributed by the group to improved sales volume from a broad-based demand for its services with notable surge in the demand for its wafer bumping and advanced packaging services. Unisem said it expects business to decline moderately in the fourth quarter as a result of anticipated inventory adjustment in the industry but would nonetheless remain profitable. -- BERNAMA
