P1 Wimax - Creativity kena Potong

MCMC to probe PI Wimax 'potong' commercial
Nov 10, 09 8:41pmThe Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is scrutinising the broadcast of the P1 Wimax Broadband commercial for using the word "potong" (cut) repeatedly.

Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister senator Heng Saei Kie said the content of the commercial was being scrutinised by MCMC content forum to determine whether it violates the content code stipulated by the MCMC.

"As we all know, all television commercials must be approved by the Film Censorship Board under the Home Ministry, and not this ministry, before they can be broadcast," she said when winding-up the debate on the 2010 Supply Bill at the policy stage in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Earlier, Mohamad Aziz (BN-Sri Gading) interrupted Heng's winding-up speech and asked the ministry to stop the broadcast of the commercial as it was misleading.

"When we say 'potong'...it is very vulgar. We understand (that it refers to cutting the Internet line and changing to broadband), but for most people, 'potong' hints at the act (of circumcision).

"So, I think the ministry should have that commercial cut," he added.
